RON KOBAYASHI - PIANIST
Pianist and composer Ron Kobayashi has performed with a variety of musical artists including Mel Torme, Kenny Burrell, Peter Frampton, Tom Scott, Margaret Whiting, Peter White, Najee, Eric Marienthal and comedian Bob Saget. For five years Ron served as musical director for the Hollywood Diversity Awards where such stars as Chris Rock, Rosario Dawson and George Lopez were honored. Ron has made numerous television appearances including on The Johnny Yune Show, The Jerry Lewis Telethon, The CBS Evening News with Dan Rather, American Stars and with Jackee' Harris on “Life After” on the TVONE Network. In 1992 Ron performed for President Bill Clinton.
Ron's Trio (with Baba Elefante on bass and Steve Dixon on drums) has been together for more than 25 years playing festivals and clubs throughout California, New York, Florida, Arizona and Nevada.
Ron has been a music educator for more than 30 years. He currently teaches at the Orange County High School of the Arts and Vanguard University (both in Orange County, CA).
STEVE HOMMEL - SAXAPHONIST
Saxophonist Steve Hommel is a professional woodwind player and composer based in Long Beach, CA. He has performed with such musical luminaries as Wynton Marsalis, Johnny Mathis, Peter White, and Anita O’Day, to name a few. In the summer of 2017, Mr Hommel toured as a featured orchestral soloist, debuting his original compositions for Orchestra and Saxophone Improvisations in Great Britain, Wales, and California. Mr. Hommel holds a Masters Degree in Jazz Studies from USC. His compositions for young bands and orchestras are performed by hundreds of student ensembles worldwide each year.
DAN HAUGEN - Drummer
Dan Haugen is one of the founders of Elegant Affair. Dan has been a percussionist and drummer for over 40 years. His experience as a studio and performing drummer include a wide variety of styles from latin, classic rock, country and jazz. Dan is married to Karen and together formed Elegant Affair.
KAREN HAUGEN - LEAD VOCALIST
Karen Haugen has been singing her entire adult life. Her unique blend of jazz and pop interpretation has thrilled audiences for years. Karen and Ron have worked closely for the past two years. Prior experience includes stage performances in various high end restaurants across southern CA. Her most recent performance has been as a finalist in “The Voice of the Ocean.”
Sam Montooth is a bassist and vocalist who lives right on the midpoint between Los Angeles and Orange Counties. Sam has been an in demand sideman for well over a decade and has worked with some of the best musicians Southern California has to offer as well as leading his own groups singing his original jazz music. He has traveled the world playing jazz, but is happiest playing with his friends here in Southern California. Sam is also a strong believer in music education and teaches a private studio as well as being a sought after string orchestra and jazz band clinician.
